As a fine art photographer and mixed media artist Zapata DeOliveira’s work examines how cultures adapt, blend, and evolve within cities. Drawing inspiration from the concept of convergent evolution, his photographs explore what happens when people from different worlds are brought together by circumstance and environment, how they shape, and are shaped by, their surroundings.
Zapata DeOliveira is drawn to cities where cultures collide and reform: places that force reinvention and reveal the beauty of coexistence through shared space, color, and rhythm. His ongoing Doorways, Crossroads & Intersections series captures these intersections, from Miami Auto Focus, which debuted at Leica Miami, to Atlanta AF, his latest study of transformation and tension in the American South.
His background spans more than a decade of visual storytelling, creating campaigns for Yale University, Whole Foods Market, Telemundo, and Hilton Hotels. This commercial experience sharpens his narrative instinct and composition, infusing his fine art work with both discipline and curiosity. Zapata’s photographs have been exhibited at Leica Miami and appear in collections and publications in the U.S. and abroad.
